John, I just finished reading your book, and I wanted to share my thoughts with you. First of all, let me give you a huge tip of my hat for your endeavor. And not just for so eloquently and thoroughly identifying the issues. I am certain that any American who tackles the ordeal of doing their own tax return spends countless hours of frustration trying to understand all the nuances of the tax code. I think I am a well educated individual, but my tax return has become so complicated that I have turned it over to a tax professional with a high-powered computer! The finished product is more than 80 pages every year. So, I, like most Americans, am well acquainted with the issues you talk about. However, all I do is gripe and complain. What you have done, and why I am so enthused about your book, is to suggest a solution for this mess that we have created. I am sure that anyone could find issue with any certain treatment of a particular tax solution that you suggest, but taken as a whole, the benefits are mind boggling! Just think about the savings in time wasted by individuals, lawyers, tax professionals, the IRS, etc. The increase in efficiency for our country would be enormous, helping our economy grow! Add to this the improvements in our national debt and the unfunded liabilities of Medicare and Social Security! How could anyone argue against this? The answer to this question is, of course, that it will cost some people more money. I have not made any calculations, but I am sure my tax bill will increase with the implementation of this solution. However, I believe that view is short sighted. With the increased efficiencies this would bring, and the resulting growth in the economy, I think each of us would eventually be more prosperous. But, even if that did not happen, I think each of us should be willing to adopt this solution in order to solve our nations currently unsustainable fiscal path! I intend to start spreading the word to those that can implement these changes!

I truly enjoyed this book. Not since 1776 when Thomas Payne wrote “Common Sense” has such an important call to action been written. By the way, I sincerely mean that. Here are several thoughts. Number one, the book is very readable, unlike most books on the U.S. tax code. Number two, John intersperses, humor, facts, poetry, statistics, and most importantly, common sense. It is a very understandable book, even to the lay person. It reads like a novel. In other words I could not put it down . This is unheard of in any discourse on the United States income tax code. This is an incredible work and I sincerely hope that the United States Congress listens to the common sense contained in this book.. I also want to be included in the 2025 tax code burning event in the parking lot before the IRS.

Congratulations you have written a book that is a real “page turner.” You have done a fantastic job! A few thoughts (very few compared to all your book generates) to share. Many with your talent and intellect would probably not write a book suggesting simplification. Yes, you are kind of retired but still contribute your wisdom and decades of experience to encourage needed change. A big challenge to overcome is how to get the change implemented. You certainly point out the status quo folks in Washington and how they need to climb aboard. My prayers are to have a new president that will choose a cabinet with ideas like yours for most government agencies. You would be ideal to oversee and implement changes to simplify our taxes. At our age, many would scoff, but the right leader would just do it! On November 5th or perhaps a day or two later, I’ll know how many of your books to send and to whom.
